Cayman Turtle Centre: A Family Adventure Awaits

There’s one place in Grand Cayman that we keep returning to because it keeps our little one engaged and leaves me feeling nostalgic. Take a drive along the coast of northwest point to the Cayman Turtle Centre and experience the magic for yourself.

As a local, I can confidently say this spot is high on the list of things to do in Grand Cayman with kids. It’s a conservation and education centre, an adventure park, and a guaranteed memorable experience. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, the Cayman Turtle Centre is always a good time!

Exploring the Cayman Turtle Centre with kids

Why I love the Cayman Turtle Centre as a family-friendly activity

What I love most about the Cayman Turtle Centre is that it’s both fun and educational. Kids of all ages can explore, engage in hands-on experiences and learn about fascinating creatures, namely the green sea turtle. Turtles have existed since the time of the dinosaurs, but they’ve faced serious threats from over fishing and habitat loss worldwide. The Centre plays a vital role in conserving and protecting this important species, releasing thousands of turtles back into the wild to help restore their population.

The Hatchery Experience

Every visit to the hatchery is a highlight. Seeing the baby turtles moving around in their containers captivates children and adults alike. My daughter presses her face against the glass, fascinated by their tiny flippers and you know what, my face is pressed right up there too! The hatchery helps fosters a deeper appreciation for animals and marine life and I think it is truly magical.

*just a note, the hatchery is open year-round but hatchlings can only be seen in season, May through October.

More Than Turtles! Other Experience at the Cayman Turtle Centre

While the turtles are the main attraction, there’s a lot more to explore.

  • The predator reef allows kids to observe reef sharks and fish up close.
  • The aviary is home to colourful birds, offering an up-close experience with native wildlife including the islands’ national bird, the Cayman Parrot.
  • The butterfly garden is a magical little place, where you can walk among the butterflies.
  • The Turtle Lagoon lets swimmers snorkel alongside turtles in a large saltwater pool.
  • The turtle-themed waterslide and splash park provide another fun way to cool off.
  • There is also a small shaded playground which kids LOVE!
